No rolloversCurrently sat 101st in the FIFA World ranking, Albania have never taken part in a major international tournament. But under Dutch manager Arie Haan, who took over the team in January 2008, they will be hoping for a few upsets in a group that boasts the likes of Denmark, Sweden and Portugal. In the qualifying campaign for the 2006 FIFA World Cup™, the team led by skipper Altin Lala proved to be a tough side to play against. With a 2-1 victory against the European Champions Greece and a 2-2 draw against the Ukraine, they showed what they are capable off. With many experienced players from foreign leagues (Cana skippers Marseille, Lala plays for German side Hannover 96, while Tare features for Lazio) they will try to achieve their best qualifying record in history and may – once again – stun the fans with some surprising results against higher-profile teams. |
